My song of the week is a collaboration between Mike D (of the Beastie Boys) and a DJ group called UNKLE. The Beastie Boys are one of my all time favorite groups and UNKLE features DJ Shadow, one of the most influential DJs of the past couple decades... turn-table DJs, not some guy with a computer. The song is The Knock (Drum of Death Part 2). |
My song of the week is a B-side from one of the best rock albums of the 90's Weezer's Blue Album. Weezer used to be a great band, their first two records are flawless. Enjoy Jamie from Weezer.

I'm going to try to get back in the game with the songs of the week for the few students that actually give it a listen. In memory of the late David Bowie, my song of the week is his Young Americans. I am not going to pretend I was a fan, but I can't deny his influence and did appreciate many of his hits growing up. The biggest reason I enjoy Young Americans is because it was in one of my favorite 80's movies, "Sixteen Candles". He has a lot of great songs you should catch up on and he's been producing music since long before I was born until the time he left us.

When Nirvana ended, the Foo Fighters were born. I admit that I am not a big Foo Fighters fan, but they do have a couple great songs, this one being my favorite. The song is Everlong by the Foo Fighters, released all the way back in 1997. It still has a touch of Nirvana in it which is pretty nostalgic for me. Hope you enjoy it too.
Side note: the video's pretty cool too. Click here for the link to iTunes. Click here for the link to YouTube. The Strokes made it big out of New York in 2001. They had this sound that was a sort of throw-back to the New York music scene when bands like The Ramones controlled New York. This song is from their first album. They have since had a handful of other solid albums, all the while keeping their original sound intact. Enjoy Someday, one of their many great songs.

Perhaps there is a deeper meaning, perhaps it's just about peaches. It's a rocking song... and Mrs. Kenny agrees. Enjoy Peaches by The Presidents of the United States of America (yes, that's their name).
