There was a time when music was tame and poppy. I was happy with tame and poppy. Then these guys came out with my song of the week, Sweet Child O' Mine. All of a sudden all of my friends (all 3 of them) listened to hard rock/metal. Wanting to fit in, I naturally listened... and was shocked. Where were all the happy sounds and the fluffy lyrics? Their album even had a parental advisory sticker on it! Now I have to ask my parents for permission. I am glad I did, because after I started listening to Guns N' Roses, I was now free to explore all kinds of great music that if you get past the fact it is loud and aggressive, it can be incredible music. This song was their first big hit and is actually a love song, quite tame by today's standards, and tame compared to the rest of their debut album "Appetite for Destruction". The lyrics, the guitar (Slash being one of the greatest ever... that's his name)... all make for one of the best rock songs ever.
GnR (as we fans called them) had a couple huge years and fell apart pretty quickly. They left behind some incredible music... give them a listen.
